Allegro Foodservice Expands Contract Packing Capabilities with Pre-made Stand Up Pouch Machine Investment

Allegro Foodservice, a leading manufacturer and distributor specialising in dry and frozen dessert products, has expanded its production and contract packing capabilities with the purchase of an IPS-8BT Stand Up Pouch Machine from Intamac Packaging Systems. The investment enables Allegro to provide an end-to-end service from product development through to packing and distribution.

Pre-made pouch machine to bolster in-house production

Allegro’s in-house production already includes extensive dry-mix and blending capabilities, supplying bespoke dessert mixes to both B2B and franchise clients. With BRCGS and BRC AA accreditation and a growing portfolio of white-label powdered products, the company identified a strategic opportunity to broaden its contract packing services.

Historically reliant on VFFS equipment for packing, Allegro sought to introduce a more premium packaging format for customers. The ability to pack products into pre-made stand-up pouches, ideal for supermarket shelves and brand differentiation led to the procurement of the Stand Up Pouch Machine.

Allegro first met Intamac when exploring servicing options for existing VFFS equipment. After discussing future business plans, Tom Poston, Division Manager at Intamac Packaging Systems, recommended the IPS-8BT as a flexible, budget-friendly, and space-efficient solution for Allegro.

IPS-8BT Stand Up Pouch Machine (5th Gen) – Key Features

  • Up to 25 ppm, depending on powder characteristics
  • Quick changeovers, easy cleaning, and low maintenance
  • Handles 100–240 mm pouch widths
  • Suitable for packaging up to 2 kg
  • Auger filling system for precision and time efficiency that can also operate independently for large-volume applications

John Hodges, Production Manager, Allegro Foodservice, explained:

“It was important for us to purchase equipment that could evolve with the business. We didn’t want to be restricted by our machinery if our customers’ needs are changing. As a growing, entrepreneurial business this was really important to us and the Intamac equipment delivers this.”

Delivery and Installation

Delivery of the IPS-8BT was completed on schedule. Initial location-based setup adjustments were required on arrival, which Intamac’s engineering team quickly resolved before providing full operator training.

John Hodges added:

“When the machine arrived there were some initial unforeseen issues. The Intamac team were quick to help and make the necessary adjustments, meaning that the set-up ran to time and resolved any problems. As we are BRCGS accredited, we regularly have the machines checked and serviced by the Intamac engineers. This gives us peace of mind that the machines are running properly and this maintenance programme is invaluable.”

Since installation, Allegro has successfully trialled a range of products on the machine and recruited a food technologist to advance its capability further, supporting both B2B and B2C recipe development. The company continues to assist clients with packaging, strengthening its presence in the contract packing sector.

Tom Poston, Intamac Packaging Systems, commented:

“Allegro is such an exciting business to work with. Not only do they have their super successful chain of Creams Cafés, but they are also always finding ways to improve their offering and develop their business. We’re proud to support them as they expand into new areas.”

With UK-based engineering support and a customer-focused service package, Intamac remains a strong partner for Allegro as the company drives forward in its contract packing growth strategy.

Powder Filling Pouch Machine sold to Sports Nutrition Brand at PPMA Show

Intamac Packaging Systems is proud to announce a highly successful appearance at this year’s PPMA Total Show 2025, highlighted by the sale of its IPS-8BT 5th Generation show machine to a rapidly growing sports nutrition brand.

The company, which currently hand-packs its range of powders, visited the show in search of its first step into automated powder filling. After seeing the IPS-8BT in operation on the Intamac stand, the team was impressed by its performance, reliability, and ease of use. Recognising the machine as the ideal solution for their production needs, they made the decision to purchase it directly from the show floor.

Transforming powder filling operations in the UK

Designed and built in the UK, the IPS-8BT is a next-generation automated powder filling machine that delivers exceptional accuracy, flexibility, and speed. Ideal for businesses looking to scale up their production, the system supports a wide range of powders and dry goods.

For the sports nutrition company, the investment marks a major step forward — enabling them to reduce labour costs, improve packing consistency, and streamline operations as they transition from manual to automated powder filling.

Supporting UK manufacturers with automation

Commenting on the sale, Tom Poston, Sales Manager at Intamac Packaging Systems, said:

“We are thrilled that our IPS-8BT show machine has found a new home with a dynamic sports nutrition brand. This purchase is a fantastic example of how automation can transform production for businesses currently reliant on manual processes. It is perfectly suited for powders and dry goods, offering the speed, accuracy, and flexibility they need as they expand. We are proud to support them on this exciting journey into automation.”

Continued success at PPMA Total Show

The PPMA Total Show once again proved to be an invaluable event for Intamac Packaging Systems, providing a platform to connect with customers, demonstrate its latest powder filling and packaging automation solutions, and highlight the tangible benefits of smart manufacturing technologies.

Taking the First Sweet Step into Packaging Automation: Treasure Island Sweets installs Vertical Form Fill Seal Machine

Bristol-based confectionery retailer Treasure Island Sweets has taken its first step into packaging automation with the installation of an IPS-420 Mini Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) Machine and a Micro 10-Head Multiweigher from Intamac Packaging Systems (IPS).

Owner-Manager Wesley Thorne first explored automation at the PPMA Show 2023, where his focus was finding ways to grow the company’s online business while reducing reliance on seasonal labour. Among several suppliers, it was Intamac’s hands-on approach and practical engineering support that convinced him the 420 Mini was the right choice.

“We spoke to three or four machinery providers at the Show, but liked the fact that Tom [Poston] and the engineers from Intamac were really hands-on and thoughtful about our requirements,” said Wesley. “They visited us and we were able to test our product on the machine, meaning that we were happy it could do what we needed.”

Compact, Scalable and Easy to Use

Established 22 years ago, Treasure Island Sweets offers over 900 different products, selling both online and through its Bristol shop. The business needed equipment that could fit into its existing facilities, scale with demand, and be simple for staff with no automation experience to learn.

The installation process took just half a day, with an Intamac engineer providing on-site support and staff training for two further days. The addition of the multiweigher has been a major productivity boost, ensuring consistent and accurate portioning that is difficult to achieve manually.

“The support and after-sales experience has been really good. With labour costs rising and the challenge of sourcing good seasonal staff, the machine has improved our productivity and safeguarded us against future labour cost increases,” Wesley added.

Future-Proof Flexibility through Packaging Automation

One of the key advantages of the IPS-420 Mini is its ability to handle both traditional plastic films and paper-based heat-sealable materials, giving Treasure Island Sweets sustainable options for the future. The packaging automation system can also be quickly configured to pack different sweet varieties, helping the business adapt to seasonal ranges and consumer demand.

Tom Poston, Sales Manager at IPS, commented:

“Seeing Treasure Island Sweets discover the benefits of automating their confectionery packaging has been really rewarding. The 420 Mini’s compact footprint and ease of use make it perfect for a business like this. We look forward to supporting their growth over the coming months.”

The IPS-420 Mini VFFS is designed for efficiency and versatility, handling liquids, powders, and granules in pillow packs, even within confined spaces. Its eco-friendly packaging compatibility makes it a strong choice for businesses seeking sustainable solutions.

Visitors to the PPMA Total Show 2025 can see Intamac Packaging Systems and the IPS-420 Mini in action at Stand D60, NEC Birmingham, 23–25 September.
