As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, one of the most important measures being taken to help prevent the spread of the virus is for face masks or coverings to be worn in public spaces where social distancing may not be possible, for example, shops and public transport. As a result of the introduction of regulations around the wearing of face masks, the market for the manufacture of face masks and the manufacture of face mask making equipment has increased considerably.

At Intamac, we are proud to be doing our part in supplying the British public with face masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Following the outbreak of the pandemic, we worked closely with our partners to develop two face mask making machines, both of which are designed to be compatible with our ancillary equipment.

We have now sold over 20 face mask making machines to healthcare providing businesses across the UK and Ireland, many of whom will be supplying directly to the NHS, and will be looking to place more orders with us in the coming months.

Inline Face Mask Making Equipment

IPS-KZ-1-2 Automatic 3 ply protective face mask machine – This machine can be used to make both medical standard and non-medical 3 layer face masks, covering the whole mask production process, from fabric rolls to the completed mask.

The production line structure of our IPS-KZ-1-2 face mask making machine includes one main mask forming machine, plus two ear-band welding machines and conveyors. This equipment allows for a fully automatic manufacturing process and can be run by one skilled operator, improving production efficiency.

This line can make non-woven, smooth cloth, gauze, active carbon and double nose strip masks with excellent filtering, making them ideal for use in the medical, construction and electronics industries.

IPS-KZ-95 Automatic 4 ply protective face mask machine – This servo driven, this machine can manufacture folding respirator masks and 3D duckbill masks of between 3 and 6 layers. Masks can be produced from sun bond cloth, melt blown cloth, or hot air cloth.

Like the 3 ply face mask machine, the IPS-KZ-95 machine also features a full production line to help improve production efficiency. The machine is operated via a simple and easy to navigate touch screen system.

With both machines, tooling is available to manufacture adult and child sized masks.

Face Mask Making Adaptations

Needless to say, each customer has different requirements, not only around the fit and accessories of masks, but also the way that masks are packed.

Our machines feature many adaptations based on customer needs, including options for ear loops or tie back fastenings, ear loop folding equipment for ease of packing, and mask stacking equipment. We are continually working to update and adapt face mask making technology in order to provide for our customers’ requirements.

Our ink jet equipment allows us to print designs directly onto masks, or onto the packaging around the masks, depending on customer preferences.

We understand that customers have very different requirements around the packaging of masks and we can provide different options to suit. For example, our automated flow wrap machinery can be used to wrap masks individually at the end of production, saving time and resources.

Whilst some businesses prefer flow wrap/auto shrink wrap masks and then place them in a box, others prefer masks to be placed directly into a box, which is then shrink wrapped. Our cartoning equipment can then put wrapped masks into boxes before they are sent to a supplier. Any number of masks can be placed in a box; whilst the general consumer will usually want to purchase between 1 and 10 masks, the NHS will likely require a minimum of 50 wrapped masks in a box.

All packaging machinery ensures an airtight, waterproof seal, to prevent contamination and damage.
