At Intamac Packaging Systems, we are committed to helping businesses to achieve growth by means of automating or upgrading packaging equipment. Offering a wide range of equipment, including pouch filling, form fill and seal, flowing wrapping, cartoning, stick pack and sachet machines, we are well placed to help businesses in the food packaging and beverages industries to level up their production.
BV Dairy is a perfect example of a traditional Dairy business that has innovated itself into a new and modern entity. Once a quintessential dairy farm, it now has its own chilled distribution fleet, supplying the dairy’s extensive range of fresh products into premium food manufacturing locations. BV Dairy’s products are made using milk sourced daily from Red Tractor accredited farms within a 30 mile radius of the production facility, ensuring quality and freshness.

Looking to expand their operations, BV Dairy reached out to Intamac.

BV Dairy’s Requirement
Prior to the purchase of our IPS 420 Mini SS VFFS machine, BV Dairy packed and supplied chilled products in conveniently sized formats suited to customer demand, however, over the last few years, they have been asked to diversify their customer and consumer packaging formats in response to changing demands.
Our VFFS machinery is aimed at SMEs looking to expand or move into new business areas. With this in mind the machines have a small footprint, are adaptable and competitively priced, making our IPS 420 Mini SS machine an ideal choice for BV Dairy.
Josh Heydon, BV Dairy Operations Director explains:
“During the pandemic, we saw eating habits change and we were required to increase our range for co-packing to include further single serve solutions for our customers.”
John Orme, Sales Manager of our Parent Company Engelmann & Buckham, has been engaged with similar projects in the past and knew BV Dairy could be helped to expand into this new area of business:
“I’m in regular contact with BV and have watched with interest as their business evolves.
“We can offer machinery from a wide range of manufacturers and it was clear that the Intamac form fill seal machine could provide the best solution within the timeframe and budget. The machines are affordable and efficient, a perfect option for BV.”
BV Dairy was approached by a potential customer to find a solution for packing single porting dairy products. To ensure their customer hit their ambitious business objectives, the required machine needed to be purchased within a short time frame and capable of delivering the requirements set out in the customer brief.
BV defined the scope and managed the purchasing process, “We needed to source a form fill seal machine at short notice. Intamac, through E&B, were able to offer us a cost effective turnkey solution with an ink jet coding system, within a fast delivery time.
“Our relationship with John helped us to make a quick decision and the form fill machine specified was more than capable of delivering the demand we requested.”
Performance and Installation
Our engineers supplied and installed BV’s VFFS machine in late December 20221. Almost immediately, the demand for the machine far outstripped the original numbers specified. They quickly found themselves running the line extensively to meet demand profiles way beyond initial expectations.
Paul Acreman, Continuous Improvement Manager at BV Dairy oversaw the intense first few months in productions:
“It was a demanding time. Our customer’s business was growing way beyond expectations and they needed a supplier they could rely on to fulfil their orders.
“We adapted our working procedures and pushed the machine to its max and were impressed by its ability to keep delivering. We really smashed out some great numbers in the first few months of production.”
Whilst volumes soon significantly exceeded the original plan, our machine managed to deliver to meet the customer’s demand. In addition to having supplied and installed the machine, BV Dairy have taken out an annual service plan with us, ensuring that we are on hand to provide engineering support, spares and training for the operatives whenever required.

The Future for BV Dairy
A new production facility has recently been completed for the bottling and cup filling side of BV Dairy’s business, and this has created a specific space for the form, fill, seal product lines. The new area will offer their customers alternatives to traditional packaging and additional optionality.
BV Dairy’s Continuous Improvement Manager Paul Acreman agrees:
“The initial order of the machine was based on a request from one of our key customers. Now the machine is installed we are completing our ‘Centre of Excellence’, providing a facility for existing and new customers who wish to use this equipment.”
With the support of our parent company, Engelmann & Buckham, Intamac will continue to be in regular contact with BV Dairy to offer our consultation services as they grow. With E&B’s extensive range of equipment and access to a network of international manufacturers mean that we are uniquely positioned to help businesses like BV Dairy to adapt and grow as markets change.
When asked about working with Intamac and Engelmann & Buckham again in the future, BV Dairy’s Josh Heydon responded:
“We would absolutely work with John again in the future. We like the range of equipment and suppliers that Intamac has access to. Their ability to source diverse equipment globally makes them unique in the marketplace.
“It is very beneficial to be able to consult with them about potential solutions for various engineering projects.”
